The Liver The liver is a wedge-shaped organ located underneath the rib cage. It weighs close to 3 pounds and is the body's largest internal organ. The liver performs many important functions. It cleans and purifies the blood supply, breaks down certain chemical substances in the blood, and manufactures (synthesizes) others. |
