Who Needs Treatment?

According to the National Institutes of Health, all people with chronic hepatitis C are potential candidates for antiviral treatment. Physicians may recommend treatment for patients with:

  • High-risk for progression to cirrhosis
  • Measurable viral load (ie, positive HCV RNA test)
  • Elevated ALTs
  • Liver biopsy that indicates moderate or severe disease (ie, moderate degree of fibrosis and inflammation)

Talk to your doctor about these factors and see if treatment is appropriate for you. If you have more questions, you may want to watch our video "Getting Treated for Hepatits C".

You can turn to The Be In Charge® Program for a vast amount of additional information and support as you manage your hepatitis C treatment. Sign up now for this tremendous support tool.
