How INTRON® A Is Taken
INTRON® A must be taken by injection because it is a protein.
If it were taken by mouth, stomach acids would destroy it before
it reached the bloodstream. The injection form of administration
allows INTRON® A to enter your bloodstream directly and begin working
immediately.
Before
your therapy begins, you will be carefully instructed on how to
give yourself injections. Here are some of the things that you will
be told to do when you take INTRON® A.
Getting
Started
You will be provided with either premixed INTRON® A Solution for
Injection or INTRON® A Powder for Injection plus Diluent or the
INTRON® A Multidose pen.
Sites
for Injection
The best sites for injection are areas with a layer of fat between
the skin and the muscle. These include:
- Thigh
- Outer
part of the upper arm
- Abdomen,
but not the navel or waist
You
will be asked to change the site of injection each time and keep
a record of injection sites and dates.
How
to Inject
Clean
the injection site with an alcohol swab and pinch the skin between
your thumb and index finger prior to injecting the medicine. After
administration, please follow directions for disposal of needles
and syringes.
Check
the injection site 2 hours after the injection. If you notice redness,
swelling, or tenderness at the site of the injection, notify your
healthcare professional.
Traveling
with INTRON® A
You
can use your INTRON A insulated kit bag with a cooling pack to help
keep your medicine cool while on the road or away from a refrigerator.
